NPR tidbits

While Bob is a geek in that video gamer, tech gadget sort of way I am a geek in that listen to NPR, BBC Radio 4 and laugh at slurs in Latin and Shakespearean English kind of way. I listen to a lot of NPR, (waiver: please note my political views are based on far more than simply radio commentaries) and love it because I learn so much from it. If you haven't checked out Science Friday with Ira Flatow, you should. It's broadcast in Second Life - how totally cool is that? I digress...so this morning two stories were played that I though were interesting and somewhat relevant to our current Learning Block, the first is about internet scammers (remember, always be safe and secure on the web!) and the other is about Med Surg students using the Wii as a learning tool. Click on the links to listen.

Ms. Innocent, I do take some issue with your limiting of my geekiness.

While I must confess that I'm not an avid NPR listener (though I love the sketches on SNL) and I didn't even know about BBC 3 let alone 4, I'm totally the kind of guy who enjoys a good "laugh at slurs in Latin and Shakespearean English."

Plus, I would hate our students to think that you're totally high-brow pinky lifting, tea drinking English. You've got the stink of a sci-fi girl all over you ;)

I'm just saying is all.

I think it is totally cool that surgeons are using the Wii before surgery. My husband is the Purchasing Director for Lutheran and he is an avid gamer too. He would get such a kick if he got to purchase a wii for the hospital! Just a side note- My brother is severly physically disabled, but he can use the computer and play video games. The other day is doctor recommended that he play the Wii for physical therapy!! The insurance company didnt think it was as funny as we did! We all love using it.
